Islamabad [Pakistan], March 12, 2024 (Punjab Khabarnama): Pakistan’s new Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar formally assumed office on Tuesday, according to a statement from the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”Muhammad Ishaq Dar @MIshaqDar50 has formally assumed the role of the 39th Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan,” Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an official post on social media platform X.Dar served as the Finance Minister of Pakistan during the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) regime that came to power in 2022 after the ouster of Imran Khan.
During his tenure, Pakistan was able to negotiate a USD 3 billion IMF bailout package during the economic crisis. Dar, a four-time finance minister, is considered close to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s family.On Monday, President Asif Ali Zardari inaugurated the swearing-in ceremony for the 19-member cabinet on a proposal moved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Asif, Mohsin Naqvi, Ahsan Iqbal, Shaza Fatima, Jam Kamal and Aleem. Khan and other prominent personalities were seen taking the oath.
