Chandigarh, March 11 (Punjab Khabarnama)- The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has registered an embezzlement case against former Sarpanch Surinder Singh, Panchayat Secretary Ashok Kumar, and Malkit Ram. The accused are charged with misappropriating Rs 3,14,500 by misusing grants issued by the State Government for development works in Nurpur village, district SBS Nagar.

According to VB spokesperson, grants received for various development projects between 2014 to 2017 were allegedly misused. The accused manipulated cash books, made fake entries, and embezzled funds meant for laborers’ wages, construction projects, and other developmental activities.

The investigation revealed discrepancies in the utilization of grants for constructing streets, crematoriums, drains, sewerage, and facilities for the S.C. and B.C. communities. The accused allegedly diverted funds, with no proper documentation or resolutions in the panchayat register.

Case number 05 dated 11.03.2024 has been filed against the accused under relevant sections of the IPC at VB police station Jalandhar. Former Sarpanch Surinder Singh and Malkit Ram have been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend Panchayat Secretary Ashok Kumar. The investigation is ongoing.
