Chairs meeting of District Animal Welfare Society
Ludhiana, March 5 (Punjab khabarnama) : Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the District Animal Welfare Society to discuss the government cattle pound that is currently running in Burj Powat village, Macchiwara.
Sawhney added that the district administration is fully aware of the problem of stray cattle in the district and is making all possible efforts to develop the government cattle pound as a model for the rest of the state. The Gaushala, which is a shelter for cows, is being transformed on modern lines for efficient management and to address the issue of stray animals. She emphasized on the need for special care to be taken for the cattle in the Gaushala and asked the Executive Engineer Panchayati Raj to prepare a fool proof design for the upcoming sheds.
Sawhney also reviewed the various activities being undertaken by the Department of Animal Husbandry, which is the executive agency responsible for this. She added that the cattle pound not only solves the problem of stray cattle but also provides shelter to animals. The total number of animals in the Gaushala is 495.
ADCs Ojsavi Alankar, Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, and others were also present in the meeting.
