Sent resignation letter to president of India

Chandigarh February 3 (Punjab khabarnama) – Banwarilal Purohit, Governor Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh on Saturday resigned from his post. In a letter to the President of India he wrote that “due to personal reasons and certain commitments I tender my resignation from the post of Governor Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh. Mentionably, the AAP government had moved the Supreme Court in last October against governor Banwarilal Purohit’s decision not to clear pending bills by declaring the assembly session “patently illegal”.
After this the governor had written to the chief minister Bhagwant Mann withholding his approval to three money bills, saying: “In the event of the persistence of the government to continue with the patently illegal session, I would be compelled to consider an appropriate course of action, including to report the matter to the President of India.”
Banwarilal Purohit is a veteran Indian politician from Vidarbha district of Maharashtra. He has been three-time Lok Sabha member from Nagpur and Managing Editor of ‘The Hitavada’, Central India’s oldest and largest circulated English daily for last one hundred years.
Earlier he remained Governor of Assam from 2016 to 2017. Before being appointed as Governor Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh in 2021, he was the Governor of Tamil Nadu from 2017 to 2021.
