Chandigarh 21 June 2024 Punjab Khabarnama : Using specialised aerial firefighting tool ‘Bambi Bucket’ to tackle forest fires in Morni has been suggested to the Punjab and Haryana high court hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) related to the recent fires in Haryana’s sole hill station that caused massive loss to its flora and fauna.
“Bambi Bucket” is a lightweight collapsible container that releases water from underneath a helicopter to fire-hit areas.

The water is filled from any water source and released by a pilot using a controlled system. When the matter came up for hearing on Wednesday, Vaibhav Vats, one of the petitioners, told the HC that there was no modern technique available with the state forest department for dousing a fire. Bambi Bucket would be the best method to control forest fires, he said.
The petitioner informed the bench that he would give a list of suggestions that help in controlling forest fires in writing to the authorities within two weeks. The state govt told the HC that in case any such suggestions were given, they would be considered by the competent authority in the right earnest.
The state counsel also informed the bench that there were no active fires as of date and all incidents during the past weeks have been contained
