June 6 (Punjab Khabarnama) : In view of the anniversary of Operation Blue Star, a high alert has been sounded across Punjab.
Operation Blue Star took place on 6 June 1984. Therefore, Punjab Police Chief Gaurav Yadav has put the police on high alert in all districts of the state including Amritsar and has instructed them to keep a close watch on sensitive places. In view of the anniversary of Operation Blue Star, security arrangements have been tightened around Sri Darbar Sahib in Amritsar. More than 3000 police personnel have been assigned the responsibility of security in Amritsar alone. Apart from this, paramilitary forces have been deployed in some districts of the state.
The anniversary of Operation Blue Star is celebrated every year by fundamentalists, so the state government and police do not want to be negligent in this matter. The leaves of Punjab Police employees have also been cancelled in view of the anniversary of Operation Blue Star and they have been sent to sensitive places. Punjab DGP has written a letter to all Police Commissioners and SSPs. He has sent instructions to the police to strengthen the police checkpoints in their areas for the next 3 days and take strict action against those who disturb the peace. The police is keeping a close watch on the people coming and going from outside Amritsar. Inter-state checkpoints have been strengthened.
