May 17 (Punjab Khabarnama) : Amarendu Prakash, the chairman of SAIL, the country’s largest steel company, said on Friday that the import of this commodity is being closely monitored. Prakash made this comment while replying to a question on the impact of US imposition of heavy tariffs on various Chinese goods like electric vehicles, batteries, steel, solar cells and aluminum.
Speaking on the sidelines of a national workshop organized by the Ministry of Steel in Delhi, Prakash said, “We are keeping a close eye on imports.” Recently, Tata Steel CEO TV Narendran had also said that he was cautious about steel imports. Need to stay.
According to official data, India’s steel imports increased by 38 percent to 831.9 million tonnes during the financial year 2023-24. Along with this, the country became a net importer of steel. Steel manufacturers are expressing concern over increasing imports from some countries, mainly China, and are demanding government intervention on the issue. Domestic companies are also demanding a review of free trade agreements (FTAs) with several countries.
