3 November 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau : Bollywood actor and dancer Nora Fatehi’s legal team has issued a clarification after her name surfaced in the ₹200-crore extortion case involving alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar. The team has categorically stated that Nora is neither an accused nor alleged to have committed any offence in the proceedings. It said she was summoned by the Delhi court only as a witness to assist in the case.
The clarification came after the matter was listed before the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi on November 2, 2026. Nora was directed to appear as a witness, but she could not attend the hearing. Her lawyers appeared before the court and explained that she had received the summons at short notice and was unable to attend because of prior professional commitments.
Legal team explains why Nora missed the hearing
In its statement, Nora’s legal team said her advocates informed the court about the circumstances that prevented her from appearing. They also filed an application seeking exemption from her personal appearance.
Following the submission, the court adjourned the matter to November 6, 2026, and issued fresh summons directing the actor to appear on that date.
The team emphasised that Nora had been called solely as a witness and that her appearance was intended to assist the court in the ongoing proceedings.
The clarification is significant because her name being mentioned in connection with the case had led to questions about her legal status. Her representatives have stressed that being summoned as a witness does not make her an accused.
Court expresses displeasure over her absence
The November 2 hearing also saw the court express displeasure over Nora’s non-appearance. According to reports, Additional Sessions Judge Gagandeep Singh observed that a witness was expected to appear after receiving a court summons and cautioned against taking the court proceedings lightly.
The Delhi Police reportedly informed the court that the summons had been served to Nora through email and WhatsApp on October 22. Officials also stated that attempts had been made to contact her over the phone.
Her counsel, meanwhile, requested exemption from personal appearance, citing prior professional commitments and the short notice.
The court subsequently issued fresh summons for November 6. Nora’s legal team has maintained that she has been called only to provide evidence as a witness.
What is the Sukesh Chandrashekhar case?
The case relates to an alleged ₹200-crore extortion operation involving Sukesh Chandrashekhar, who is accused of impersonating senior government officials while operating from Delhi’s Rohini Jail.
According to the prosecution, Chandrashekhar allegedly contacted Aditi Singh, wife of former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh, and promised to help secure her husband’s release from jail in exchange for money. Investigators allege that approximately ₹200 crore was extorted from her during 2020 and 2021.
The investigation was initially handled by the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing. The case later involved allegations of organised criminal activity, and proceedings have continued against Chandrashekhar and other accused persons.
Why was Nora Fatehi questioned earlier?
Nora’s name had previously emerged during the investigation into Chandrashekhar and his wife, Leena Maria Paul. The actor was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in October 2021 and later by the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing in September 2022.
Investigators reportedly sought information about her interactions with people connected to Chandrashekhar, an event in Chennai that she attended, and luxury gifts allegedly offered through his associates.
Nora’s representatives had previously said that she was cooperating with investigating agencies and had not been involved in money-laundering activities. Her team also maintained that she had no personal connection with Chandrashekhar.
Her name was subsequently included in the supplementary chargesheet as a witness. Reports have identified her as a prosecution witness in the proceedings.
Nora’s legal status clarified
The latest statement from Nora’s team draws a clear distinction between her role as a witness and the accused persons facing proceedings in the case. The actor has been directed to appear before the Rouse Avenue Court on November
