19 October 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau  :  A firing incident targeting Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai has brought renewed attention to the long and troubled history of underworld threats against the Hindi film industry. The actor escaped serious harm after unidentified assailants opened fire near Pushpa Park in the Juhu area on October 18, 2026. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of film personalities and the possible return of organised-crime intimidation in Bollywood.

According to reports, the shooting took place at around 7 pm as Shroff was leaving the area after a private event and a football match. Three motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly opened fire at the vehicle associated with the actor before fleeing. Shroff was reported safe, while his driver and another person nearby sustained gunshot injuries. Police launched an investigation to identify the attackers and establish the motive behind the incident.

Police Investigation Underway

Mumbai Police registered a case against unidentified suspects and began examining evidence collected from the scene. Investigators have been looking into CCTV footage, the motorcycle allegedly used by the assailants and other forensic evidence that could help establish their identities and movements.

Reports indicated that multiple police teams were formed to trace the suspects. Authorities were also investigating whether the incident was connected to organised criminal networks. Although claims of responsibility reportedly circulated on social media, such claims do not independently establish who planned or carried out the attack. The investigation will need to verify any alleged links and determine the actual motive.

The incident has also renewed questions about the security arrangements available to actors and other prominent members of the film industry. While celebrities often attract public attention, an attack involving gunfire in a busy Mumbai neighbourhood can also put bystanders at risk.

When the Underworld Entered Bollywood

The relationship between Mumbai’s underworld and the Hindi film industry goes back several decades. During the early years, criminal figures reportedly developed connections with sections of the entertainment business through financing, personal networks and other commercial dealings.

By the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s, the relationship became increasingly associated with allegations of extortion, threats and attempts to influence film production. Producers, directors, actors and music industry personalities faced pressure from criminal groups over money, business arrangements and professional decisions.

Several high-profile incidents during that period exposed the dangers faced by people working in Bollywood. Film producer Javed Riaz Siddiqui was murdered in 1992, while music composer and producer Gulshan Kumar was killed in Mumbai in 1997. Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan survived a shooting attack in 2000 after the release of his film Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai.

These incidents became reminders of how criminal intimidation could extend beyond ordinary financial disputes and threaten the lives of people associated with the entertainment industry.

A New Wave of Threats Raises Concerns

In recent years, several incidents involving Bollywood personalities have again brought organised crime into public discussion. In April 2024, gunshots were fired outside actor Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai. The incident led to heightened security concerns and an investigation into alleged links with criminal networks.

The killing of politician Baba Siddique in October 2024 further intensified concerns because of his connections with prominent figures in the film industry. Investigators examined alleged links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in that case.

In February 2026, another firing incident was reported outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai. These events have contributed to growing anxiety about threats directed at prominent individuals and the possible use of violence to intimidate them.

However, each incident has its own circumstances, and investigators must establish the evidence before attributing responsibility to any particular group. Similarities in the nature of attacks do not, by themselves, prove that they are connected.

Why Bollywood Can Become a Target

The film industry operates in a high-profile environment where celebrities, producers and directors often have valuable commercial interests, public visibility and extensive professional networks. These factors can make prominent individuals attractive targets for criminals seeking money, influence or publicity.

Threats against well-known actors can also generate widespread media attention, potentially allowing criminal groups to amplify their claims. In some cases, investigators have examined whether alleged threats were connected to extortion demands or attempts to influence professional associations.

For the industry, such incidents create challenges beyond the immediate safety of an individual. Film shoots, public appearances, promotional events and business meetings may require additional security arrangements. The uncertainty surrounding threats can also affect workers and others who depend on the entertainment sector for their livelihoods.

Security and Accountability in Focus

The latest firing incident has renewed calls for stronger protection for film personalities and decisive action against those responsible for violent attacks. Effective investigations require reliable forensic evidence, examination of digital communications where legally permitted, identification of suspects and the prosecution of individuals against whom sufficient evidence is established.

At the same time, protecting celebrities should not come at the expense of public safety. People living and working in areas where such incidents occur also need confidence that law enforcement agencies can respond effectively to threats and prevent further violence.

The incident involving Tiger Shroff is a reminder that the legacy of underworld intimidation remains a sensitive subject for Bollywood. Whether the latest attack proves to be connected to an organised criminal network will depend on the findings of the investigation.

For now, the central priorities remain establishing the facts, identifying those responsible and ensuring the safety of both the actor and members of the public. The case has once again placed the relationship between organised crime and the Hindi film industry under scrutiny.
