Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Komal Mittal said that to be a part of democracy it is necessary to become a voter and voters have an important role in building a strong democracy. He was addressing as the chief guest in the district level function of National Voters’ Day at Swami Sarvanand Giri Regional Center Panjab University, Hushiarpur today. During this, Additional Deputy Commissioner (J) Rahul Chaba, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Pendu Development) Balraj Singh, SDM Hushiarpur Preetinder Singh Bains were also present with him. On this occasion, Director of Regional Center Dr. HS Bains welcomed the guests.
District Election Officer Komal Mittal said that in today’s program, children from schools and colleges told about India’s strong democracy and the importance of voting through cultural programs, poetry and drama. He congratulated the residents of the district on National Voters’ Day and invited them to exercise their right to vote in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He said that India is the largest democracy in the world and the role of voters has been important in making it successful. He said that along with using their vote, young voters should also encourage others to vote, because the right to vote is a very important right. He said that it is very important for all of us to participate in the festival of democracy and we should exercise our right to vote on the basis of our discretion without being influenced by any greed. During the programme, National Voters’ Day and CD issued by the Chief Electoral Officer Punjab were also shown through the projector.
During this, the District Election Officer congratulated all the officers and employees engaged in the election process and said that they are engaged in the work of casting votes throughout the year and when the elections come, they conduct them with full dedication. On this occasion, voter identity cards were given to new voters and young voters were honored by giving them saplings. Before this, oath was also administered to the officers present on the occasion of National Voters’ Day.
Meanwhile, Komal Mittal declared SDM Mukerian Ashok Kumar as the best ERO, Assistant Professor PUSSGRC Vine Kumar as the best nodal officer for colleges and assembly constituency 39- BLO Rakesh Kumar of booth 83 of Mukerian was honored as the best BLO. Apart from this, other officers and employees who played important roles in the election process were also honoured. Apart from the students who participated in quiz, slogan, speech, essay and painting competitions, the students who presented cultural programs were also honored by the Deputy Commissioner. During this, street plays, songs, bhand art, war singing, dialects, bhangra and gidhe related to voter awareness were also demonstrated.
