7 September 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau  : India captain Shubman Gill made an explosive debut for the Fazilka Falcons in the inaugural Sher-E-Punjab T20 League, smashing 40 runs off just 21 balls against the Ludhiana Lions in Mohali.

Gill’s quickfire innings included seven fours and one six, giving the Fazilka Falcons a strong start in a thrilling contest that they eventually won by one run.

Opening the innings, Gill immediately showed his attacking intent. He scored at a strike rate of 190.48, finding the boundary regularly before his innings was ended by Ludhiana leg-spinner Kartik Chadha.

Gill’s 40 was the highest individual score for Fazilka in the match.

Fazilka Falcons posted 170 runs in their innings, with Gill providing the early momentum.

The Sher-E-Punjab T20 outing was Gill’s first T20 appearance since the IPL 2026 final.

The India Test and ODI captain had joined Fazilka Falcons as one of the league’s marquee players and had missed the team’s opening matches before making his debut.
