April 17 (Punjab Khabarnama) : Haryana Police, which is leading among the states across the country in cyber crime control, is setting new dimensions day by day to further strengthen the cyber security system. After assuming charge in August 2023, Director General of Police Shri Shatrujit Kapoor included cyber crime control among his priorities and studied every aspect of the problems related to cyber crime control in detail with the cyber team and on a pilot basis in the Bank The nodal officer was posted in the work station of Haryana Police. Similarly, the number of police personnel deployed at the workstations to attend every call received on the cyber fraud related helpline number was doubled as compared to earlier. As a result, the Bank and the Haryana Police together took steps to freeze the bank accounts involved in cyber fraud. The percentage rate was increased many times more than before. After the success of this trial, two other private banks also worked in collaboration with Haryana Police, due to the positive results of which the percentage rate of bank accounts involved in cyber fraud increased day by day. Along with this, an effective action plan to prevent cyber fraud was also prepared with senior officials of RBI and telecom companies, which yielded positive results.

ADGP Cyber OP Singh said that Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) and Haryana Police are now working on a platform. Here, together with the representatives of 20 banks across the country, work is being done under an effective action plan to freeze the amount of cyber fraud. Not only this, under Operation Cyber Attack conducted by Haryana Police from April 1 to April 10, the location of cyber criminals was tracked using Prakharna mobile app and 84 cyber criminals were caught. Of these, most cyber criminals were caught from Nuh district. Along with this, Haryana Police, in coordination with telecom companies, has blocked 70 thousand mobile numbers involved in cyber crime. Not only this, Haryana Police has also achieved historic success in arresting 11 bank employees who were providing information about bank accounts to cyber criminals.

According to the report received, in September-2023, where Haryana Police was at 23rd position in the country by holding 8.62 percent of the money, now it has reached the first position by holding 27 percent of the money. Regarding increasing this percentage rate further, Director General of Police Shatrujit Kapoor held a meeting with senior officers of the bank and clearly told them that if any person who is a victim of cyber fraud has to lose his deposit due to the negligence of the banks, then In future, action will be taken against the concerned bank as per rules. In the meeting, SP Cyber Amit Dahiya gave detailed information through a power point presentation about the methods adopted by criminals for cyber crimes. Shri Kapoor said that banks should do EKYC properly as per the guidelines of RBI so that fake bank accounts cannot be opened. He said that it is mandatory to follow the guidelines of RBI, hence bank officials should ensure to follow them in their banks.

Shri Kapoor said that every day a large number of people are becoming victims of cyber fraud due to which they have to lose their savings. He said that it has come to the notice of Haryana Police that employees working in some banks, in collaboration with cyber criminals, are opening Mule i.e. fake bank accounts in which cyber fraud money is transferred. He said that if any bank employee is found involved in such an incident, then strictest action will be taken against him as per the prescribed rules. He asked the bank representatives to review their banking practices and identify mule accounts and ensure immediate closure of such bank accounts.

It was told in the meeting that currently about 31 percent of the cyber fraud amount is being frozen by the State Bank of India, which is commendable. For this, the Director General of Police congratulated the team of State Bank of India and asked them to share the efforts made by their bank in this direction with other bank employees also.

After the meeting, all the bank officials were also made to visit the cyber helpline 1930 workstation established in Haryana 112. Senior officials of the banks received detailed information about the process of preventing cyber fraud through the work stations established there, due to which Kotak Mahindra Bank was impressed and immediately appointed its nodal officer in the control room of Haryana Police.

It is noteworthy that the common people are being made victims of cyber fraud by cyber criminals every day by adopting different methods. For example, cyber criminals give different types of inducements to people in the name of investment, due to which people fall into their trap and become victims of cyber fraud. Similarly, people are being made victims of cyber fraud by cyber criminals posing as officers of CBI, ED and TRAI and threatening them with arrest. Apart from this, online task based frauds including work from home, insurance, paying salary for online work etc. are being done by luring people with the promise of jobs. The Director General of Police appealed to the general public that they should not fall prey to any kind of temptation and must investigate the facts, otherwise they may become victims of cyber fraud. In case of cyber fraud, people should contact helpline number 1930 as soon as possible.
