11 June 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau  : A third merchant vessel carrying Indian crew members has reportedly come under attack near Oman within four days, raising fresh concerns about the safety of commercial shipping in the Gulf region amid escalating military tensions. Initial reports indicate that all crew members aboard the latest vessel are safe.

According to reports, the incident involved the Guinea-Bissau-flagged tanker Jalveer near Oman’s Shinas port. The Indian Embassy in Oman said it was closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local authorities to ascertain details of the incident.

Third Incident In Four Days

The latest episode follows two earlier attacks on vessels carrying Indian seafarers in waters near Oman and the Strait of Hormuz. The repeated incidents have heightened concerns over the impact of the ongoing regional conflict on international shipping routes.

Previous Tanker Attack

On June 10, the tanker Settebello, carrying 24 Indian crew members, was attacked off the coast of Oman. Twenty-one crew members were rescued, while three Indian seafarers initially went missing. Indian authorities later confirmed that all three had died.

India Monitoring Situation

The Indian government has been actively coordinating with Omani authorities and monitoring developments involving Indian seafarers operating in the Gulf region. Following the attacks, New Delhi strongly condemned the incidents and emphasized the importance of protecting commercial shipping and maritime personnel.

Strategic Shipping Route Under Pressure

The attacks have occurred against the backdrop of growing military confrontation in the Middle East, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes. Rising tensions have increased risks for commercial vessels operating in the region.

Maritime Safety Concerns

Shipping companies and maritime authorities are closely tracking developments as attacks on merchant vessels threaten global trade flows and crew safety. Industry observers warn that continued instability could lead to higher insurance costs, shipping delays, and disruptions in energy markets.

Investigation Underway

Authorities are continuing to gather information regarding the latest incident near Oman. Further details about the nature of the attack and any damage to the vessel are expected as investigations progress.
