Patiala, 16 June 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): Patiala Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav has taken serious note of the irregularities found in the roof repair work of the gymnasium hall at Polo Ground. She has demanded an explanation from the concerned officials. While presiding over a meeting of the District Sports Council today, she stated that any kind of negligence in the facilities provided to players will not be tolerated.
Additional Deputy Commissioners (General) Isha Singal and (Urban Development) Navreet Kaur Sekhon were also present at the meeting.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the repair work of the swimming pool under the Sports Department and mentioned that ₹15 lakh has already been sanctioned for the renovation of bathrooms and changing rooms. The tendering process will begin soon, and the work will be completed promptly. She emphasized that in order to prepare athletes for national and international competitions, it is essential to provide them with world-class facilities. She stated that it is the duty of the Sports Department to create a conducive environment for players to train effectively.
Dr. Preeti Yadav strictly instructed the immediate cleanliness of the Raja Bhalinder Singh Sports Complex (Polo Ground), noting that not only athletes but also a large number of city residents visit the premises for morning and evening walks and exercise. She directed that proper arrangements be ensured for clean drinking water and sanitation in the bathrooms.
The Deputy Commissioner also instructed coaches of various sports disciplines present at the meeting to pay special attention to the facilities being provided to the players. She said the players should be made aware of the schemes and benefits offered by the Punjab government. Through an online meeting, she also took stock of the work related to constructing sports grounds in villages from all the SDMs of the district.
Dr. Preeti Yadav emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness at all district stadiums, stating that poor sanitation not only affects players’ health but also their performance. She firmly stated that there should be no compromise in cleanliness at the sports fields and stadiums, and if any shortcomings are found, the responsible official will be held accountable.
