29 May 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): A serious case of corruption has emerged at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Fazilka. The Vigilance Bureau, Chandigarh, arrested four police personnel, including the SHO, for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹1 lakh from the family of a 17-year-old minor. This action was taken under the supervision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The victim’s family had lodged a complaint on the Chief Minister’s helpline, reporting the bribe demand. Acting promptly, the Vigilance team reached the Cyber Police Station and arrested the SHO, a reader, and two constables.
The incident relates to a village in Fazilka, where a 17-year-old boy accidentally clicked on a porn website. A tipline alert was sent to the cyber police station. Though it was a minor issue, the cyber police treated it as a serious matter, confiscated the boy’s mobile phone, and allegedly demanded ₹1 lakh from the family to suppress the case. Distressed, the family reported the incident to the CM helpline and provided evidence.
Following the complaint, the Vigilance team arrived at the cyber cell at 5:30 PM on Tuesday and, after two hours, took the officers into custody.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy against corruption. He stated that whether it’s a corrupt IAS/PCS officer or a minister/MLA, no one will be spared. There is no place for corruption in Punjab, and the government is committed to ensuring honest and transparent governance.
