Chandigarh 12 march 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): More than 1 crore central government employees and pensioners may receive a hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) today. The central government is expected to announce this decision on Wednesday, March 12, just before Holi. The final decision regarding the DA hike will be made after the Cabinet meeting. The government revises DA twice a year, on January 1 and July 1, but the official announcement is made later.
How Much Will DA Increase?
According to media reports, the Dearness Allowance may increase by 2%, raising it from 53% to 55%. However, some employee unions are demanding a 3% hike. The final decision will be taken in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Earlier, in October 2024, the DA was increased by 3%, raising it from 50% to 53%.
How Much Will Salary Increase?
- If DA increases by 2%, a government employee with a basic salary of ₹18,000 will get an additional ₹360 per month.
- Currently, with a 53% DA rate, the employee receives ₹9,540 as DA, but after a 2% hike, it will increase to ₹9,900.
- If the DA is increased by 3%, the total DA amount will rise from ₹9,540 to ₹10,080, giving employees direct financial benefits.
The official announcement is expected today, bringing good news for government employees and pensioners ahead of Holi.
