Amritsar, December 17, 2024 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): A loud explosion was heard early today near the Islamabad Police Station. Locals in the area reported hearing the blast around 3 AM, which caused fear among them. Jasbeer Singh, an officer from the Islamabad Police Station, confirmed hearing the sound of the blast but clarified that no explosion occurred inside the station. Investigations are underway to determine the blast’s exact location.
The responsibility for the explosion has been claimed by gangster Jeevan Faujji. Local residents say the blast occurred at around 3 AM, and it was so powerful that pictures hanging on walls fell down. A post from the gangster, which is going viral on social media, claims responsibility for the grenade attack at the Islamabad Police Station. The post reads, “Today, I take responsibility for the grenade thrown at the Islamabad Police Station in Amritsar. This is to show the police what they have done to Sikhs and their families since 1984. If you continue, you will face consequences.”
Earlier, on Wednesday night around 10 PM, a similar explosion took place at the Majitha Police Station in Amritsar. The blast was so intense that the windows of the station were shattered. This caused panic in the area, and the police station’s gates were closed immediately after the explosion.
Amritsar Police Commissioner’s Statement:
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar also visited the police station and said, “We are inside the station. There was no blast inside, but we are investigating. The blast sound was indeed heard this morning. Recently, we arrested 10 people under UAPA, revealing a module involved in criminal activities. It seems that these individuals are carrying out such incidents to make their presence felt in their state of despair. We will soon arrest the remaining suspects.”
NIA Alert for Punjab Police:
Additionally, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had shared a report with the Punjab Police claiming that a conspiracy to spread terror in Punjab was underway. The first target would be police stations in the state, as grenades and IED attacks have already occurred at five stations. After these threats, the NIA had been closely monitoring Punjab. A media report suggested that Khalistani militants are carrying out attacks using the “dead drop model” similar to the tactics used in 1984, prompting central security agencies to remain on alert.
