UK transport minister Louise Haigh

London November 29, 2024 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau) – UK Transport Minister Louise Haigh resigned from her post on Friday after being found guilty in a decade-old cellphone fraud case. In a letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Haigh said, “I remain fully committed to my political responsibilities, but now I believe that it would be best to resign from the post. ” Hours before Haigh’s resignation, there were reports in ‘Sky News’ and ‘The Times of London’ newspapers, which said that Haigh has been charged with fraud.

According to the news, Hague had said in 2013 that his cellphone had been stolen. However, later Hague said that he had mistakenly included the cellphone in the stolen items. When Hague turned on the cellphone after finding it, the police called him for questioning. Hague pleaded guilty to fraud by making false statements, after which he was acquitted with conditions.

Hague said in a statement before her resignation, “As advised by my lawyer, I plead guilty. However, the fact is that I made a mistake. The magistrate accepted all these arguments and acquitted me.” Hague (37) has been a Member of Parliament from Sheffield in northern England since 2015. He was made Transport Minister after the Starmer-led Labour Party government was formed in July.
