Punjab Government committed to provide better and adequate infrastructure for sports: Anurag Verma
Asks officials to give status report on daily basis
Chandigarh, February 27 (Punjab khabarnama) : Punjab Chief Secretary Mr. Anurag Verma on Tuesday asked the officers to immediately complete the ongoing development works near International Cricket Stadium Mullanpur, New Chandigarh for sprucing it up for the upcoming Indian Premier League matches.
Chief Secretary Mr. Verma presided over a review meeting here today with officials of PUDA, GMADA and representatives of Punjab Cricket Association to review the progress of ongoing engineering and civil works near Mullanpur Cricket Stadium.
The Chief Secretary said that the Cricket stadium will act as a catalyst for the development of the entire region. He said that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Maan is committed to provide the best and suitable infrastructure for sports in the state. Mr Anurag Verma said that top priority should be accorded to completion of the ongoing works before the cricket match adding that he will personally monitor the progress of work on daily basis.
The Chief Secretary said that on one hand the Punjab government is making concerted efforts to promote sports culture and on the other it is also giving top priority to the development of cities. He said that with the holding of matches at this new International Cricket Stadium, the development of this area will be get further impetus. Mr Anurag Verma underscored that construction of approach roads and bridges leading to this stadium should be completed without any delay adding that any sort of delay is unwarranted and undesirable.
The meeting was attended by PUDA CA Apneet Riyat, GMADA CA Rajeev Kumar Gupta, Chief Engineer Balwinder Singh, Chief Town Planner Mandeep Kaur, Punjab Cricket Association Secretary Dilsher Khanna.
