Indian shuttler Kiran George defeated third seed Chi Yu Jen of Chinese Taipei to enter the men’s singles quarterfinals of the BWF Super 300 Badminton Tournament Korea Masters here on Thursday.
World number 41 George, the only Indian in the tournament, beat Jain 21-17, 19-21, 21-17 to reach the top eight, where he will face Japan’s Takuma. Will be with Obayashi.
Jane initially led by a single point at the first midgame break, but Kieran George accelerated after the restart to secure the opening game. In the second, the shuttler from Chinese Taipei finally fought back to equalize despite three game points saved by Kiran.
The decider remained tight until George won five straight points to take a 20-14 lead. Jain saved three game points but could not stop the Indian from winning the match in one hour and 15 minutes.
Before this, Kiran George had to defeat Vietnam’s Nguyen Hai Dang 15-21, 21-12, 21-15 in the opening round.
