25 October 2024 (Punjab Khabarnama) : The farmers under the banner of the United Kisan Morcha blocked the Nawashahr-Phillaur road near New Dana Mandi.
Addressing the farmers gathered on this occasion, the leaders of Kirti Kisan Union District President Surinder Singh Bains and State Committee Member Bhupinder Singh Vaich said that both the farmers, brokers, and sheller owners are being harassed.
“There are heaps of bags in the markets. In Punjab, rice was to be lifted from the silos and godowns by March 31, but till now the silos have not been moved. Due to the incompetence of the Punjab government, no agreement has been reached with the sheller owners yet. Even though in the markets procurement has started the pace of lifting from the markets is still very slow,” he said.
He added farmers will gherao DC offices if the government fails to fulfill their demands.
