The Central Government’s ‘eShram-One Stop Solution’ portal, which aims to effectively integrate information on welfare schemes for unorganized workers on a single platform, has now integrated 12 schemes of various central ministries and departments on this site. The central government has also urged the states and union territories to bring their schemes and benefits for unorganized workers on the eShram platform. Union Labor Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said that now 30 crore workers of the unorganized sector registered on the e-Shram portal will be able to avail the benefits of various social security schemes run by the government without any interruption.

The idea is that in one click, people who are registering on this portal from the unorganised sector can get all the facilities at one place. To ensure wider reach, we are providing services in some regional languages and conducting awareness programmes and activities to spread awareness about the portal and on how to register and avail the benefits,” said a senior official from the Ministry of Labour and Employment and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

He also added that the eShram portal will act as an intermediary and ensure that unorganised workers are aware of the schemes and have easy access to them.

The official said that since the launch of the e-Shram portal in August 2021, more than 30 crore unorganised workers have registered on it. “This demonstrates the wide appeal of the e-Shram portal among the unorganised labour and the social impact of this initiative and underlines the government’s commitment to support unorganised workers,” the official said.

The portal was launched with the aim of creating a ‘national database of unorganised workers’ and provides a Universal Account Number (UAN) to workers. According to information shared by the central government in Parliament this year, the Economic Survey 2021-22 reported that out of the total workforce of 53.53 crore, 43.99 crore workers were employed in the unorganised sector. The reply in Parliament also said that the gender-wise data of workers registered on the e-Shram portal as of March 31 is as follows: female (15,67,85,963), male (13,83,96,531) and others (6,461).
