The maximum temperature in Delhi on Wednesday was the lowest this season at 33.1 degrees Celsius, which is one degree above normal, although a thick layer of ‘smog’ engulfed the city for most of the day. Smog is a form of air pollution. When dust, smoke and deadly pollution from vehicles present in the air mix together, it takes the form of smog. The second highest temperature of 33.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in the city on October 12.

Delhi’s day temperature has been between 35 and 36 degrees Celsius throughout the month of October and it is unlikely to decrease in the coming days. Mahesh Palawat of private weather forecaster ‘Skymet Weather Services’ said, “There is no hope of a drop in temperature as there is no significant seasonal activity, clouds or western disturbance at this time. Unless there is any strong western disturbance or snowfall in areas like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the temperature will remain stable for at least a week.”

He said that a western disturbance is likely to arrive around October 25 or 26, which may lead to rain or snowfall in the upper areas. “However, till then we do not expect a major drop in temperature,” he said. The humidity level ranged between 55 per cent and 83 per cent during the day. The weather department has forecast clear skies on Thursday, with the maximum temperature around 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature around 19 degrees Celsius.
