15 october 2024 : Quick commerce company Blinkit has asked several employees to sign an addendum to their contracts, raising their notice period from zero to up to two months, according to a report by Moneycontrol. This change comes as companies in the rapid delivery sector, including Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy, compete to attract top talent.
A source familiar with the situation explained that Blinkit’s decision is both proactive and a reaction to the competitive landscape, where well-funded rivals like Zepto and major players like Flipkart can easily lure away Blinkit’s employees with attractive offers. To mitigate this risk, Blinkit is implementing measures to retain its talent.
In instances where Blinkit suspects an employee is moving to a direct competitor, that employee may be placed on garden leave for two months or relieved immediately to prevent the leakage of sensitive information.
The report also noted that companies like Swiggy are actively recruiting from e-commerce giants such as Flipkart and Amazon. Anshul Lodha, managing partner at Page Executive India, remarked that Amazon is a key source for talent in advertising and search, while Flipkart is known for expertise in warehouse and backend operations. Swiggy is recognized for its talent in product and design.
He further noted that Zepto has been offering highly competitive salaries and substantial annual promotion increments, allowing high performers in the quick commerce sector to potentially double their salaries each year.
