14 october 2024 : Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran expressed that anyone who met the esteemed industrialist Ratan Tata left with a story showcasing his kindness, warmth, and aspirations for India. Reflecting on his bond with Ratan Tata, Chandrasekaran stated, “There was no one like him.”
In a LinkedIn post, he elaborated on how their relationship evolved from business discussions to a more personal connection, touching on topics like cars and hotels. However, when conversations shifted to everyday life, Ratan Tata demonstrated his deep empathy and understanding.
Chandrasekaran recounted an incident that highlighted Ratan Tata’s commitment to employee welfare. He recalled a situation at Tata Motors involving a wage dispute between the company and the employees’ union. Following his appointment as Chairman, he and Ratan Tata met with union leaders, where Tata conveyed three key messages: he regretted the delay in resolving the issue, explained the company’s financial struggles, and promised that the dispute would be settled within two weeks.
Praising Ratan Tata further, Chandrasekaran noted his remarkable memory. “If Mr. Tata visited a location, he could recall every detail—from the arrangement of the furniture to the lighting and color scheme. He had a photographic memory, remembering the titles and content of books and magazines, often referencing them years later. He was always observant, processing both grand ideas and minute details.”
