14 october 2024 : Malayalam actor Baiju Santhosh, known for his upcoming role in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2: Empuraan, was arrested by police early on Monday, October 14. He allegedly drove his car recklessly while under the influence of alcohol, colliding with a two-wheeler. He faces multiple charges.
Incident Details
The incident reportedly took place at 11:45 PM on the Kowdiar-Vellayambalam road within the Museum police station area in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Police responded quickly, taking Baiju into custody and recording his arrest at 12:30 AM on Monday.
He has been charged under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving and Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 for driving under the influence of alcohol. He was later released on station bail, and his car was impounded. Fortunately, the passenger on the scooter involved did not suffer serious injuries and has not filed a complaint.
According to reports, Baiju lost control of his vehicle while trying to avoid a road construction barrier, resulting in the accident that also damaged two signal posts. His car’s front tire was punctured in the collision, and his daughter was reportedly in the vehicle with him. Initially, Baiju refused to provide a blood sample for testing, but a doctor from the General Hospital noted that he smelled strongly of alcohol.

Baiju Santhosh began his acting career as a child artist in the 1981 film Maniyan Pilla Adhava Maniyan Pilla. His major breakthrough came in the 2017 film Puthan Panam, directed by Ranjith. He has mainly played comedic and character roles in numerous Malayalam films, transitioning to lead roles in 2019 with Nadirshah’s Mera Naam Shaji, alongside Asif Ali and Biju Menon. Recently, he received acclaim for his performances in Nunakkuzhi and Virunnu, and he is set to appear in L2: Empuraan, Bha. Bha. Ba., and Zam Zam.
