8 october 2024 : Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal revealed that he has never used competitors like Swiggy, emphasizing his loyalty to Zomato. When asked if he had ever ordered from Swiggy, Goyal responded, “No, I’ve never used anyone else’s app.” His comments come as Swiggy is ramping up its branding efforts ahead of its IPO.
Goyal also shared that he was removed as a judge from Shark Tank India due to Swiggy’s sponsorship of the show’s fourth season. He explained that he had joined the show to offer a fresh, authentic perspective on India’s startup culture, but after filming for one weekend, he learned he was dropped because of Swiggy’s involvement.
Reflecting on Zomato’s tough times, Goyal mentioned that in 2018, when Swiggy raised $1 billion, Zomato was struggling with only $35 million in the bank. He recalled that moment as the one time he thought, “Oh sh**, we’re dead.”
