7 october 2024 : Unseeded Rethin Pranav from Tamil Nadu and top-seeded Vaidehee Chaudhari from Gujarat claimed the men’s and women’s singles titles, respectively, at the 29th Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship on Saturday.

Pranav, who advanced to the main draw through the qualifiers, triumphed over Nitin Kumar Sinha from the Railways with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 victory in the final. Meanwhile, Vaidehee secured her second women’s singles title at the tournament by defeating Tamil Nadu’s Maaya Revathi 6-3, 6-3.

In the men’s final, 17-year-old Pranav started strong, leading 4-1 before Nitin fought back to even the score at 4-4. Pranav then broke Nitin’s serve to take the first set. Nitin bounced back in the second set, winning 6-2. The third set was closely contested, but Pranav claimed four consecutive games to seal the victory.

The women’s final, lasting over 90 minutes, featured long rallies. Maaya won the first game, but Vaidehee responded by taking a 3-1 lead. Despite Maaya winning another game, Vaidehee maintained her dominance, eventually breaking her opponent’s serve to win the first set 6-3. In the second set, Vaidehee raced to a 4-0 lead before Maaya fought back with three consecutive wins. However, Vaidehee closed out the match, securing the title.

In the boys’ U-18 final, Karnataka’s Aradhya Kshitiz edged out Shanker Heisnam from Manipur 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 to win the title. Maharashtra’s Prisha Shinde won the girls’ U-18 final, defeating Diya Ramesh from Tamil Nadu 1-6, 7-6, 6-2.
