2 September 2024 : Free bus travel facility is being provided to the women of the state under the revolutionary initiative Free Bus Travel Scheme of the Punjab Government. Women are taking advantage of free travel in government buses of Punjab The Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has provided free bus travel facility worth more than Rs 1,548 crore to the women of the state so far and it is still going on uninterruptedly. It is an important step of the Mann government in the direction of empowering the women of Punjab
During its 28-month term, the Aam Aadmi Party government has spent ₹1,548.25 crore on free bus travel for women on Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS, and PRTC buses. According to government statistics, this scheme has so far facilitated 32.46 crore trips for women in the state.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the Punjab government spent a total of ₹664.63 crore to provide 14.29 crore trips for women. In the financial year 2023-2024, ₹694.64 crore was spent to provide 14.90 crore trips for women. Up to July 15, 2024, ₹188.98 crore has been spent to facilitate 3.27 crore trips for women.
