23 March 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau :  The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert warning of rainfall and strong winds across several parts of the country over the next five days. According to the forecast, nearly 15 states, including Punjab, are expected to experience unstable weather conditions.

Meteorologists said the weather system is likely to bring intermittent rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds with speeds ranging between 50 and 70 kilometres per hour in some regions. The advisory has urged residents to stay cautious and prepare for sudden changes in weather.

In Punjab and neighbouring states, cloudy skies, scattered showers, and strong winds are expected to affect daily activities. Farmers have also been advised to take precautionary measures to protect standing crops from possible wind damage.

According to the IMD forecast, the changing weather pattern is being influenced by a combination of western disturbances and moisture-laden winds entering northern and central parts of the country. These conditions can trigger thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate to heavy rainfall in several areas.

Strong winds of up to 70 km/h may lead to temporary disruptions, including fallen tree branches, power outages, and travel delays in some locations. Authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during storms and stay indoors when severe weather occurs.

Urban areas could also experience waterlogging in low-lying zones if heavy rain occurs within a short period. Local administrations have been asked to remain alert and ensure preparedness to deal with any weather-related emergencies.

Weather experts say such systems are common during seasonal transitions when atmospheric conditions change rapidly. While the rainfall may bring relief from rising temperatures in some regions, strong winds and thunderstorms can also pose safety risks.

The IMD has urged residents in the affected states to monitor official weather updates and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.

With the alert in place for the next five days, people have been advised to keep rain gear ready and remain cautious as weather conditions are expected to fluctuate across multiple regions.

Summary :
IMD has issued a five-day weather alert for 15 states including Punjab, warning of rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds up to 70 km/h, urging residents to remain cautious.
