11 February 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau : Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, alleging that it is part of a “new conspiracy” against the state in the name of migrants. His remarks have added fresh political heat to an already sensitive issue, with SAD accusing the ruling dispensation of endangering Punjab’s social balance and administrative priorities.

Strong Allegations Against the AAP Government

Addressing party workers and speaking to the media, Sukhbir Badal claimed that the AAP government’s handling of the migrant issue reflects a deliberate strategy that could harm Punjab’s interests. He alleged that instead of focusing on unemployment, law and order, and farmer distress, the government is creating confusion and tension by politicising the presence of migrant workers.

“This is not an administrative lapse, it is a well-thought-out conspiracy against Punjab,” Badal said, adding that the state has always welcomed people from other regions but must not be pushed into policies that ignore local realities.

Concerns Over Law and Order and Employment

The SAD chief argued that unchecked policies related to migrants could worsen the law and order situation and put additional pressure on limited resources. He claimed that local youth are already struggling with unemployment, drug abuse, and lack of opportunities, and that the government should prioritise them.

Badal alleged that the AAP government has failed to create sufficient jobs for Punjab’s youth and is instead distracting public attention by raising issues that could polarise society.

Punjab’s Tradition of Harmony

Sukhbir Badal stressed that Punjab has a long tradition of communal harmony and coexistence. He warned that irresponsible statements or policies could disturb this balance.

“Punjab has always been inclusive and hospitable. But playing politics over migrants without a clear policy framework can create unnecessary fear and misunderstanding,” he said.

He also appealed to migrant communities not to panic, stating that they have always been safe in Punjab and will continue to be so, irrespective of political rhetoric.

Political Motive Alleged

The SAD leader accused the AAP government of acting at the behest of forces outside Punjab and ignoring the state’s unique social and economic conditions. According to Badal, decisions are being imposed without consulting stakeholders, including farmers, traders, and local communities.

He claimed that instead of strengthening Punjab’s economy and addressing core governance issues, the government is indulging in headline-driven politics.

AAP Yet to Respond in Detail

At the time of reporting, the AAP government had not issued a detailed response to Sukhbir Badal’s allegations. However, party leaders in the past have maintained that their policies are aimed at ensuring equality, legal compliance, and economic growth, while rejecting claims of divisive politics.

Political Reactions

Badal’s statement drew reactions from various political quarters. SAD leaders rallied behind him, calling for clarity and transparency from the government on migrant-related policies. Opposition parties said the issue should be handled sensitively and not turned into a political battleground.

Political analysts believe the migrant issue could become a major talking point in Punjab politics, especially as parties position themselves ahead of future elections.

Call for Responsible Governance

Sukhbir Badal concluded by urging the AAP government to stop what he termed “experiments” on Punjab and focus on governance, development, and public welfare.

“Punjab does not need conspiracies or confusion. It needs jobs, security, and respect for its identity,” he said.

Summary

Sukhbir Badal accused the AAP government of hatching a “new conspiracy against Punjab” by politicising the migrant issue, warning it could harm social harmony, employment, and law and order in the state.
