19 December 2025 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau : Air traffic operations at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport were disrupted late Thursday night due to dense fog and poor visibility, affecting both international and domestic flights.

According to airport sources, several flights from Amritsar, including those bound for Malaysia, Qatar and other destinations, were unable to take off after 9 pm as visibility dropped sharply. A Malaysia Airlines flight to Kuala Lumpur was cancelled, while Qatar Airways and several other flights—domestic and international—were delayed and rescheduled.

Despite the adverse weather, several inbound flights managed to land at the airport using the CAT-III B Instrument Landing System, which assists aircraft during low-visibility conditions. However, the system does not enable the aircraft to take off, resulting in prolonged ground delays for departing flights, experts said.

Airport’s live flight status showed delays across arrivals and departures, cancelled or awaiting updated timings, particularly during the late-night and early-morning hours.

FlyAmritsar Initiative official Sameep Singh advised passengers to check the status of their flights on the airline’s official website or through flight-tracking platforms before leaving for the airport,” he said.

Operations will gradually normalise once the visibility improves, airport authorities said.

Summary:
Dense fog in and around Amritsar led to disruptions in flight operations at the city’s airport, causing delays and rescheduling of several flights. Authorities advised passengers to check flight status before traveling, as low visibility conditions are expected to continue during early morning hours.
