Chandigarh November 4, 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): Punjab’s Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, Dr. Baljit Kaur, said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government is continuously working to secure the future of orphaned and dependent children through financial and social assistance schemes.
Dr. Baljit Kaur informed that a total of ₹242.77 crore has so far been released as financial assistance to dependent children across the state. This aid is meant for children who have lost one or both parents or whose families are facing severe financial hardship. She added that for the current financial year 2025–26, a budget provision of ₹410 crore has been made under this scheme. At present, 2,32,290 children in the state are receiving regular financial assistance, helping them to continue their education, receive better upbringing, and improve their standard of living.
Dr. Baljit Kaur further stated that the government led by Bhagwant Singh Mann is fully committed to ensuring that no child in Punjab is deprived of basic needs, care, or opportunities for growth. This ongoing support provided by the government reflects its compassion and humanity toward the most vulnerable sections of society.
The minister also mentioned that the department is working on integrated development programs for dependent children, including skill development, counseling, and educational support, so they can lead self-reliant lives as they grow up. Dr. Baljit Kaur emphasized that the Punjab government’s goal is not limited to providing financial aid — it aims to empower every child to become a confident and capable citizen.
