Tarn Taran, 29 Aug 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): The Punjab Government has issued an advisory regarding the flood situation. Giving details, Tarn Taran Deputy Commissioner Shri Rahul (IAS) said that it is important to follow general precautions during floods. He advised people to avoid direct contact with floodwater, wear gumboots or protective shoes in waterlogged areas, and wash hands frequently with soap. Food items should be kept covered, cooked safely, and stored properly before consumption.
He added that to prevent waterborne diseases, only boiled or chlorinated water should be consumed, and it should be stored in clean, covered containers. Fruits and vegetables must be washed thoroughly before use, and food that has come in contact with floodwater should not be eaten.
To prevent diseases caused by mosquitoes and flies, stagnant water (in tanks, tyres, coolers) should be removed. People should use mosquito nets, wear full-sleeved clothing, apply mosquito repellent cream, and fogging or spraying should be carried out in affected areas.
The DC further advised precautions against snakebites: do not walk in waterlogged areas at night without a torch or stick, avoid putting hands and feet in pits or bushes, and keep the surroundings clear of garbage, stones, or wood piles.
For protection against skin diseases, people should avoid staying in floodwater for too long, wear dry clothes, bathe with soap, and keep the skin dry. In case of infection, a doctor should be consulted immediately.
He emphasized drinking only boiled or chlorinated water, taking ORS solution in case of diarrhoea, sleeping under mosquito nets, wearing strong shoes while moving through floodwater, avoiding staying wet for long periods, keeping the skin dry, and ensuring the safety of oneself and one’s family.
