Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on August 10, 2025, that India has become the leading supplier of smartphones to the United States. At a public event in Bengaluru, the minister revealed that the country’s electronics manufacturing sector has surged sixfold over the past 11 years and now stands at a staggering ₹12 lakh crore.

Recent data from research firm Canalys further underscores this milestone: in the April–June 2025 quarter, India seized the top spot from China as the leading exporter of smartphones to the U.S., capturing a 44% share of shipments compared to just 13% a year earlier. Meanwhile, China’s share dropped to 25%.
