Fatehgarh Sahib, 16 July 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau) : Thanks to the revolutionary decisions made by the Punjab Government in the field of education, 15 government schools in the district are being developed as “Schools of Happiness” at a cost of ₹6.6 crore. These schools will provide modern, technology-based education to students starting from the primary level.

Sharing this information during a meeting of the District Education Development Committee at the District Administrative Complex, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sona Thind stated that the schools are being upgraded to ensure a more engaging and joyful learning experience for students.

She instructed the education department officials to coordinate with the respective MLAs regarding the ongoing development works in the schools and ensure complete reports are sent to them.

Dr. Thind further informed that under the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, ₹1.99 crore is being spent to benefit 36,237 students studying in primary and upper primary schools in the district.

She also mentioned that under the Samagra Shiksha/PM SHRI scheme, ₹2.44 crore is being utilized to provide school uniforms to 40,756 students from pre-primary to class 8. The officials were instructed to ensure the timely distribution of uniforms.

In a move to support children with special needs, Dr. Thind shared that a District Level and 26 Cluster Level Resource Centers are being run, providing education to 262 children with special needs. Additionally, 98 such children who cannot travel to schools are being educated at home.

She also said that during a survey conducted from April 28 to May 21, 54 new children with special needs were identified and enrolled in schools.

To maintain the quality of infrastructure development in schools, she directed the education department to have the work inspected by the technical wing officers. She also emphasized regular school visits to stay connected with the students and directed that show-cause notices be issued to committee members who were absent from the meeting.

The meeting was attended by District Development and Panchayat Officer Jaspreet Kaur, District Education Officer (Secondary) Sushil Nath, DEO (Elementary) Sanjeev Gautam, Deputy DEO (Secondary) Didar Singh Mangat, Deputy DEO (Elementary) Kamaldeep Kaur, committee member Gurvinder Soni, and officials from various departments.
