Washington 12 May 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): The US and UK Express Concern Over India-Pakistan Tensions; Foreign Ministers Rubio and Lemy Hold Emergency Talks
The United States has discussed the current situation between India and Pakistan with the United Kingdom and emphasized the importance of maintaining the agreement between the two neighboring countries to halt military actions. On Saturday, India and Pakistan had announced an agreement to cease all military actions—including ground, air, and naval operations.
US State Department spokesperson Temi Bruce said in a statement that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a conversation with UK Foreign Secretary David Lemy on Sunday.
The statement said, “In their discussion regarding India and Pakistan, the US and UK foreign ministers stressed the importance of maintaining the agreement to stop military actions and the need to continue dialogue. The Secretary of State expressed America’s support for sustained efforts to improve direct communication and dialogue between India and Pakistan.”
Confirming the US stance on the Russia-Ukraine war, Rubio said, “Our top priority is to end the fighting and implement an immediate ceasefire.”
The military conflict between India and Pakistan had escalated last week after the Indian Armed Forces launched strikes on terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
Summary: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy held emergency talks, advocating for India-Pakistan ceasefire adherence and renewed diplomatic dialogue.
