29 March 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): Royal Challengers Bengaluru ended a 17-year wait for a win against the Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk Stadium in an emphatic manner. They beat CSK by 50 runs to condemn them to the biggest defeat they have suffered at the venue against any team.
RCB batted first and were off to a rather shaky start. Virat Kohli couldn’t make much of an impact scoring just 31 runs in 30 balls.
Rajat Patidar scored his first half-century as captain of RCB. He smashed 51 runs in 32 balls.
RCB were given quite a sensational late boost by Tim David. The Australian smashed 22 runs in eight balls to take RCB to a score of 196/7 batting first.
It was another good outing for Noor Ahmad, who followed up his four-wicket haul in CSK’s last match with figures of 3/36.
Senior fast bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood delivered a body blow to the CSK chase in the powerplay itself. Bhuvneshwar made his RCB and returned figures of 1/20 in three overs.
Hazlewood was the standout for RCB, finishing with figures of 3/21 in four overs
RCB’s spinners continued to apply the squeeze after Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar were done in the powerplay.
Yash Dayal pretty much broke the back of the CSK chase in the 13th over, picking the big wickets of Rachin Ravindra and Shivam Dube. He returned figures of 2/18 in three overs.
MS Dhoni reduced the impact that this loss would’ve had on CSK’s net run rate by blasting 30 runs in the 16 balls he faced walking out at No.9.

Summary: RCB ends a 17-year winless streak at Chepauk, defeating CSK by 50 runs with stellar performances from Patidar, David, and Hazlewood.
