27 March 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): Maharashtra minister Shambhuraj Desai on Thursday slammed comedian Kunal Kamra over his new reposted video targeting union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, saying that it was now time for him to get ‘prasad of Shiv Sena’.
This comes amid an ongoing row of Kamra’s ‘traitor’ jibe at Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde. Desai accused the comic of ‘deliberately’ insulting prominent figures like Shinde, Sitharaman, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Kunal Kamra has crossed all limits; the water has gone above the head, and now it’s time to give him ‘Prasad.’ Wherever he’s hiding, we will drag him out. Kamra needs to face the consequences of his actions,” ANI quoted Shambhuraj Desai as saying.
Pointing out the vandalism of the venue where Kamra performed his show in Mumbai’s Khar area, Desai said that the patience of the Shiv Sainiks is ‘running out’.
“Our Shiv Sainiks have already shown their anger by visiting his studio after his first video. Kamra’s actions are deliberate, and now it’s time for him to get the ‘Prasad’ of Shiv Sena in our own style. We are MLAs, ministers, but first and foremost, we are Shiv Sainiks, and our patience is running out,” he added.
Desai also announced that Eknath Shinde has promised action against Kamra under the law, urging the artist to step forward and face the Shiv Sainiks.
“We want to tell the police, do not test our patience and nab him from wherever he is, put him in a tyre and give him ‘prasad’,” PTI quoted Desai as saying, as he drew a parallel to the practice of third-degree torture.
Kunal Kamra’s videos amid ‘traitor’ jibe controversy
Kunal Kamra has been reposting videos of the parody songs he performed at his contentious show at The Habitat in Mumbai, where he took a jibe at Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, calling him a ‘traitor’. The jibe was an apparent reference to Shinde’s 2022 rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray, which split the Shiv Sena into two factions.
In the first video, Kamra targeted Shinde’s Shiv Sena and their reaction to his show. The parody of ‘Hum honge Kamyaab’ song had the visuals of the vandalism by the party’s workers after the video went viral.
In the second video reposted on Wednesday, the comedian targeted finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman through a parody of ‘Hawa Hawai’ from 1987 movie Mr. India.
Both of these songs were performed at the show from where the original controversy started.
