Chandigarh, 27 March 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): March is in its final phase, and several states are beginning to experience intense heat. Northern India is currently facing this situation. The temperature in the national capital, Delhi, and the surrounding northern and northwestern states is rising rapidly. Stepping outside in the afternoon has become difficult. The situation is expected to worsen in April, May, and June. On Wednesday, the region recorded the hottest day in 14 years since 2011.

However, there is some relief from the Meteorological Department. According to the department, a cyclonic circulation is forming in the lower troposphere over Pakistan and nearby areas due to a Western Disturbance, which may impact the weather in India. This system is moving towards Punjab. As a result, today, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may experience thunderstorms, strong winds, and rainfall. Wind speeds in these states could range between 30 to 50 km/h.

Snowfall Expected in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh

The Meteorological Department has also predicted snowfall in the beautiful valleys of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh due to the cyclonic circulation over Pakistan. Additionally, some parts of Himachal Pradesh may experience heavy rainfall today. Strong winds are expected in Delhi and nearby regions. The department has warned that from today until March 29, Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, and Punjab may experience strong winds and dust storms. Arunachal Pradesh is also likely to receive heavy rainfall and snowfall in some areas by March 29.

Rainfall Expected in Southern States

According to the Meteorological Department, weather activities stretching from Chhattisgarh to the Gulf of Mannar could impact interior Karnataka, interior Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Goa. Rainfall is expected in Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry today.

In the next 24 hours, no significant temperature change is expected in northwestern plains. Eastern India will maintain a temperature rise of 2-3°C, while Gujarat and Maharashtra will see no change for the next three days. However, in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, temperatures may increase by 2-3°C over the next three days.

Summary: A cyclone approaching from Pakistan may bring dust storms and heavy rain to Punjab. Authorities urge residents to stay prepared.
