Chandigarh, 27 March 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): The All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Thursday will begin its three-day meetings with District Congress Committee presidents at its headquarters in Delhi.

The first batch meeting will be held on Thursday while the remaining two rounds will be held on Friday and April 3.

The meetings are in accordance with the proposals discussed at an AICC meeting – attended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha – last week to restructure the party organisation, with the district units being central to its structure.

The idea is to decentralise decision-making powers in the party. To this end, a committee has been formed, led by Rajya Sabha MP Mukul Wasnik and including Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and newly appointed AICC in-charges Jitendra Singh, Meenakshi Natarajan, Krishna Allavaru, Sachin Rao and Kanhaiya Kumar.

Congress sources said three main aspects of restructuring were discussed at the Tuesday meeting – the selection criteria for district-level committees, the role of these committees, and their financial strength and independence. “The idea of this new structure being district-centred is Rahul Gandhi’s,” said a source.

Himachal BJP to protest against ‘mafia raj’

The BJP will organise a demonstration outside the Himachal Pradesh Assembly in Shimla on Thursday against the “mafia raj” and the “deteriorating” law and order in the state.

The protest will highlight the growing influence of various mafia and the “mafia rule” established by associates of the Himachal Pradesh government, BJP state chief Rajiv Bindal said on Tuesday.

Thousands of party workers from around the state will participate in the protest and raise their voices against the Congress government’s “wrongdoings”, he added.

“During the two-and-a-half-year tenure of the state government, law and order has deteriorated. Heinous crimes such as the brutal murder of a Dalit youngster in Chamba are evidence of the worsening lawlessness. The state is descending into total disorder,” Bindal said.

Chhava screening in Parliament

Amid the controversy over the demand to raze Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s grave in Maharashtra, a special screening of Chhaava, the Vicky Kaushal-starring film based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, will be held in in Parliament on Thursday.

The screening highlights the government’s recognition of the historical and cultural significance of the Maratha warrior king, known for his valour and resistance against the Mughal Empire.

Summary: Congress top brass is set to hold key meetings with district presidents to discuss party strategies and upcoming political plans.
