Amritsar 17 march 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): The Amritsar Mobile Wing (MV) of the Excise and Taxation Department took a strong action against tax evasion and seized a truck going from Jalandhar to Hoshiarpur and collected a fine of Rs 2.75 lakh. This action was taken on the instructions of Assistant Commissioner of Mobile Wing Amritsar Range Mahesh Gupta. Apart from this, 4 other vehicles were also stopped in which 5 trucks carrying copper, new batteries and scrap were seized. The MV team has collected a fine of Rs 8 lakh 6 thousand from a total of 5 vehicles. Apart from this, fines are yet to be imposed on some vehicles. The M Wing had information that a truck, in which copper was loaded, had left from Jalandhar and was going towards Hoshiarpur, where it was to be unloaded. On the instructions of AETC Mahesh Gupta, a team was formed under the leadership of ETO Pandit Raman Kumar Sharma to take action on this, which also included security personnel.

As per the instructions, the departmental team started setting up a trap. Meanwhile, a truck loaded with copper was going towards Hoshiarpur after reaching Jalandhar/Pathankot bypass. M.Wing’s ETO Pandit Raman Sharma’s team blocked the roads going ahead and surrounded the vehicle. During checking, when the documents of the goods were presented, on checking the bill, it was found that the bill was less than the value of the goods and it was a simple case of ‘under-billing’. There was a difference between the valuation and market price of the loaded goods. After investigation, the MV team collected a fine of Rs 2.75 lakh on it.

Similarly, information was received about a vehicle in Amritsar which was loaded with new batteries, which are installed with inverters. On investigation, it was found that these batteries had come from the Industrial Area Focal Point and were being unloaded on the 100 feet road of Amritsar. On enquiring, the MV found out that there was no bill with it and a fine of Rs 1 lakh was levied on it.

1.16 lakh fine on vehicle loaded with battery scrap

In other information received from MV, a vehicle was going from district Gurdaspur towards Jalandhar, which was loaded with battery scrap. The team surrounded the truck and caught it near Shri Hargovindpur. When the team led by ETO Pandit Raman checked the goods, it turned out to be a case of tax evasion. According to the officer, after valuation, a fine of 1 lakh 16 thousand rupees was imposed on it. The department was estimating that this goods was going towards Mandi Govindgarh.

A scrap truck going from Nawanshahr to Mandi Gobindgarh was caught

During checking, the M. Wing team seized a truck going from Nawanshahr. On investigation, it was found that it was loaded with scrap and was going towards Mal Mandi Govindgarh. When the driver did not have the appropriate documents, M.V. imposed a fine of Rs 1.10 lakh on it.

A truck carrying mixed scrap was caught while going from Hoshiarpur to Jalandhar

Under the leadership of M.V. Team Captain Pandit Raman K. Sharma, information was received about a truck going from Hoshiarpur to Jalandhar. When the cordon was started at the marked place, the team got success and surrounded the truck. When the documents of the goods were not found to be appropriate, a case of tax evasion was made. After valuation, the captain of the mobile wing team collected a fine of 2 lakh 5 thousand rupees.

Mobile wing targets truck going to Himachal Pradesh

Trucks going from Punjab to Mandi Govindgarh are now going in large numbers to Baddi area of ​​Himachal. There is a huge demand for metals like iron scrap and battery lead in the industries established here. This is being monitored continuously. On the other hand, the roads going to Mandi from the entire state have been sealed by the GST mobile wing. It has now been revealed that there is a huge consumption of iron scrap/lead in Baddi area, the industrial hub of Himachal. For this reason, the tax mafia is now eyeing the small roads going from Punjab to Himachal, which mostly pass through district Pathankot and district Hoshiarpur. In the past months too, State Tax Officer (MV) Pandit Raman Kumar Sharma has caught many trucks of battery lead scrap going to Baddi in Himachal. In the last three months, a fine of Rs 30-40 lakh has been imposed on battery lead scrap, while the process is still going on.
