Sri Muktsar Sahib, March 12, 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): The Punjab government has distributed ₹3,708.57 crore in pensions to 22.64 lakh elderly beneficiaries till January 2025. This information was shared by Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur.

She stated that Punjab has a total of 34.09 lakh beneficiaries, including senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, widows, destitute women, and dependent children. The state government has allocated ₹5,924.50 crore for the Senior Citizen Pension Scheme and other financial assistance programs, out of which ₹4,000 crore has been designated for senior citizen pensions in 2025.

Dr. Baljit Kaur has instructed officials to ensure that the pending pension funds reach the beneficiaries within the stipulated time. She warned that strict action would be taken against officials and staff in case of any delays in pension payments. The Cabinet Minister emphasized that senior citizens are our heritage, and ensuring timely pension payments will be a top priority.
