Ludhiana February 24 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): After the completion of the 10th board exams, students often remain confused about which subject to choose for their career. Based on this, they select their stream for the 11th grade. Most students in private schools receive guidance from career counselors to help them choose a stream, but students in government schools often lack such guidance and tend to choose their stream based on what their peers do.

In this matter, it is mostly the female students who face confusion about stream selection. To address this, the Education Department has initiated a plan to conduct a psychometric test for 10th-grade female students studying in government schools. Under this initiative, psychometric tests will be conducted for 93,819 female students across the state.

Under this plan, by March 31, career guidance will be provided to 10th-grade female students in government high and secondary schools based on their mental abilities, interests, and personality. The Education Department has issued detailed guidelines for this test to help the students make the right decision for their future.

The department has collected detailed data of 10th-grade female students from each district and allocated funds for this initiative. In Ludhiana district, a special amount of ₹66,17,800 has been allocated for 9,454 female students. A budget of ₹700 has been set for each student’s test and guidance. According to the department, guidance and counseling will be provided by experts. This test will help determine which subject the student is most interested in and what career they aspire to pursue.

Test Process and Benefits:

  1. Personality Test: This will evaluate the characteristics of the students’ personality.
  2. Aptitude Test: This will assess their logical and cognitive thinking.
  3. Interest Test: This will help understand their career-related interests.

Special Committee for Administration: A special committee will be formed in each district to conduct the psychometric test, consisting of the District Education Officer, senior principals, and district guidance counselors. This will ensure the effective administration of the test. During the test, members of the School Management Committee (SMC), career teachers, and experts from the selected agency will be present. A maximum of 50 students will be included in each session so that every student can receive personalized guidance.

Career Guidance Based on Report: After the completion of the psychometric test, each school will need to prepare a detailed report of the students and submit it to the District Education Officer and the main Education Department. Based on this report, career guidance will be provided to the students according to their personality and abilities, helping them decide the right direction for their future.

Summary: The Education Department launches a special scheme for government school students to enhance their learning opportunities and benefits.
