Chandigarh February 24 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): There is good news for women traveling in government buses in Punjab. The Panbus-PRTC Contract Workers Union has temporarily withdrawn its plan to shut down bus stations across the state on February 24.
The union stated that they are giving the Punjab government another chance, as the authorities assured during a special meeting on Sunday, a holiday, that they would consider the workers’ demands. However, union leaders made it clear that if their demands are not fulfilled soon or if there are any changes, they will shut down bus stations across Punjab in the coming days.
Union President Resham Singh and General Secretary Shamsher Singh said that it has been three years since the government came into power, but no notification has been issued for the regularization of contract workers. They stated that the Punjab government is ignoring the demands of contract workers. Despite several agreements with officials and leaders, Panbus-PRTC continues to delay addressing the demands, forcing the union to repeatedly resort to struggles.
Shamsher Singh mentioned that the union had planned to shut down bus stands on February 24 and hold a state-level protest in Patiala, but after the sudden meeting, officials assured that necessary steps would be taken soon regarding the demands of contracted workers.
Summary: A new announcement has been made for women traveling in buses in Punjab, ensuring better safety and facilities for their commute.
