Kadian (Batala), January 31(Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): Keeping in mind the convenience of transportation and the public demand, the district administration of Gurdaspur carried out an anti-encroachment drive today in the markets of Kadian. The encroachments made by shopkeepers in these markets were removed.
Under the leadership of Mr. Harjinder Singh Bedi, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) of Gurdaspur, and with the participation of EO Bhupinder Singh of Nagar Council Kadian and the council team, the operation to remove illegal encroachments took place this morning. The team from Nagar Council Kadian removed illegal extensions and barricades placed in front of shops in the markets of Kadian, from the council office to the bus stand.
Informing about the ongoing campaign to remove encroachments in various markets of the district, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Mr. Harjinder Singh Bedi said that the district administration had been receiving continuous complaints about some shopkeepers illegally occupying spaces in city markets, which had caused overcrowding and made it very difficult for people to pass through.
He mentioned that due to these encroachments, traffic jams were frequent in the markets, and at times, school children and even ambulances got stuck in these jams.
He emphasized that keeping in mind the demands and convenience of the public, the district administration took action to remove these illegal encroachments.
Mr. Bedi further stated that the Nagar Council had previously requested shopkeepers several times through appeals and announcements to remove the encroachments on their own. He noted that some shopkeepers had removed their encroachments responsibly, but there were still others who continued to ignore repeated appeals. He stated that, in the interest of the public, the district administration was compelled to take this action.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner appealed to the shopkeepers to act as responsible citizens and remove the illegal encroachments from in front of their shops.
He added that shopkeepers should place their goods only within the designated spaces, or else the administration would be forced to take strict action again. He assured that this anti-encroachment drive would continue in the future.
Mr. Bedi also mentioned that similar actions had been taken in Gurdaspur city before. He further informed that the drive to remove illegal encroachments would be extended to other towns in the district, such as Dera Baba Nanak, Fatehgarh Churian, Dina Nagar, Dhariwal, and Sri Hargobindpur.
On this occasion, the public praised the district administration for the anti-encroachment drive. They stated that removing the encroachments from the markets would not only improve traffic flow but also enhance the cleanliness and beauty of the city.
