Chandigarh, January 15, 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): To simplify traffic rules, a decision has been made to revise FasTag regulations. The new FasTag rules will come into effect from April 1, 2025. Under the government’s new rules, it will be mandatory for all vehicles to have a FasTag. This move aims to save fuel, time, and make the toll collection process more transparent.
Benefits of FASTag
FASTag is an electronic toll collection system that uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. By installing a FASTag on the vehicle, toll payments can be made without stopping at the toll plaza. This eliminates the need for cash transactions and helps avoid long queues of vehicles.
New FASTag Rule and Penalty
The Maharashtra government, under Devendra Fadnavis, has clarified that vehicles without FASTag will have to pay double the toll charges. This measure aims to ensure that vehicle drivers start using FASTags on time. The rule will apply to all private and commercial vehicles.
Government’s Objective Behind New FASTag Rule
The Maharashtra government’s primary aim with this initiative is to reduce traffic jams at toll plazas, control fuel consumption, and bring transparency to toll collection. Additionally, the state government is working to promote digital payments under the Digital India campaign. According to a Business Standard report, this rule will not only encourage digital payments but also make the state’s revenue collection more accurate. As per TV9 Hindi’s report, this move will help achieve the government’s goal of smart and digital toll plazas.
Summary: Maharashtra’s new FASTag rules aim to reduce traffic jams, control fuel consumption, promote digital payments, and enhance revenue accuracy for toll collection transparency.
