Chandigarh, January 14, 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): Northern India is once again expected to experience rainfall. The Meteorological Department has stated that a western disturbance has become active again, which will result in heavy rainfall in Northern India. Additionally, there is a likelihood of heavy snowfall in the hilly regions. This will lead to severe cold conditions in the plains. States like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are also expected to experience rainfall along with cold waves.
According to the Meteorological Department, on January 14, the day of Makar Sankranti, the western disturbance will enter India through Rajasthan. During this time, rainfall is expected in the eastern parts of Rajasthan today. Subsequently, the impact of this western disturbance will also be observed in Delhi-NCR on January 15 and 18. The Meteorological Department has mentioned that during this period, places like Chandigarh, Ambala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Sonipat, Panipat, and NCR areas such as Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram will witness rainfall.
Rain Expected to Reduce Pollution
Rainfall is likely to lower pollution levels. Currently, the pollution levels in Delhi-NCR range between 300 and 400. While severe cold may trouble people, rain is expected to provide relief from pollution. According to the IMD, light to heavy snowfall, along with light rain, is expected in Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, and Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad (under Pakistan’s control) between January 15 and 18.

From January 13 to 16, regions in Tamil Nadu, interior Karnataka, southern Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala are expected to receive rain. Notably, heavy rainfall is forecasted in Tamil Nadu and southern Kerala on January 15.
Summary: Rain and snowfall are expected across northern India, reducing pollution levels. Tamil Nadu and Kerala may see heavy rain on January 15, with relief from severe cold anticipated.
