Rain lashed several places in Punjab and Haryana early Sunday morning while cold weather conditions continued to persist in both states, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Chandigarh, the common capital of both states, recorded 18.4 mm of rainfall, said the IMD.

In Punjab, rainfall was reported in places, including Amritsar (5 mm), Ludhiana (11 mm), Patiala (6.5 mm), Pathankot (3 mm), Bathinda (31 mm) and Faridkot (20.6 mm).

In Haryana, rainfall was recorded in places such as Ambala (20.5 mm), Hisar (13 mm), Karnal (1.6 mm), Narnaul (14 mm), Rohtak (3 mm), Bhiwani (6 mm) and Sirsa (3.2 mm). Gurdaspur was the coldest place in Punjab, with a minimum temperature of 5°C.

Meanwhile, Amritsar recorded a low of 10.8°C, while the temperature in Ludhiana settled at 10.4°C, Patiala and Pathankot both shivered at 10.1°C. The temperature in Bathinda settled at 7.2°C and Faridkot at 9.5°C. Chandigarh recorded a minimum of 11°C, which is four notches above normal.

In Haryana, Ambala recorded a minimum temperature of 11°C, 4.5 degrees above normal. The temperature in Hisar settled at 9.5°C, Karnal at 11.4°C, Narnaul at 6.8°C, Rohtak at 8.8°C, Bhiwani at 9°C and Sirsa at 9.5°C.

The average minimum temperatures were above normal by 3.6 degrees in Haryana and 4.6 degrees in Punjab.
