Chandigarh, January 4, 2025: The Tilaiya Dam, renowned for its stunning beauty, is a popular tourist destination attracting visitors from across the country. Located amidst beautiful valleys, the dam offers activities such as double-decker boats, shikara rides, speed boats, and picnics. Now, Tilaiya Dam will also be the site of Jharkhand’s largest floating solar plant, with an installed capacity of 155 MW.
Power Production at Koderma Thermal Power Station: Manoj Thakur, the Project Head and Chief Engineer at Koderma Thermal Power Station (KTPS), shared that the station will produce a total of 171 MW of electricity through solar energy. This includes 10 MW from solar panels installed on an empty plot within the KTPS campus and 6 MW from a floating solar plant situated in a water reservoir within the KTPS premises. The construction of this facility is in its final stages.
The Largest Floating Solar Plant in Jharkhand: The 155 MW floating solar plant at Tilaiya Dam will soon begin construction under the joint venture of DVVNL and NTPC, developed by Green Valley Corporation. This project will be the largest solar plant in Jharkhand. Sterling Wilson Company has been awarded the tender to complete the project within 18 months. Floating solar plants offer several benefits. While they contribute to the green revolution, they also help prevent water pollution and ensure the safety of animals living near the water’s edge.
No Impact on Fish Farming: There were concerns among local fishermen that the installation of the floating solar plant might affect fish farming. However, Manoj Thakur reassured that the project will not impact fish farming, and fishermen need not worry about any disruptions to their fishing activities.
